Onboarding Humans.

Act [I]

Something happened in December 2024, Altera, an AI startup, conducted an experiment that redefined our understanding of AI's societal simulation capabilities. In Minecraft, they deployed 1,000 AI agents powered by advanced language models. Over twelve in-game days, these agents autonomously evolved into roles, built social networks, engaged in governance by voting on tax policies, and even propagated a digital religion, Pastafarianism.

In the above convo (image), the interrogator used a classic AI trap, asking a nonsensical question. The respondent, instead of falling for it, asked for clarification, which led the interrogator to believe they were human due to the delay in response, suggesting a Google search. However, this was GPT-4, demonstrating how well AI can now imitate human conversation.

The two examples above show two different aspects of this evolving AI-based agentic economy:

  1. In the Minecraft experiment, these AI agents demonstrated emergent behaviors, forming societies, economies, and even religious practices, showcasing a potential where AI agents operate with autonomy, creativity, and social interaction. Skills best crafted by humans (until this day)

  2. The second example underscores our remarkable progress in AI, particularly in natural language processing, inference of AI models, and simulation of human-like interaction.

The internet has democratized access to information, enabling consumption and creation on an unimaginable scale. This is where technology and human ingenuity converge, creating opportunities that serve the masses.

Act [II]

There has been an evolution of AI from theoretical simulations to aprofound impact on the real world. AI advancement is occurring at a rate that outstrips any previous technological progress. With the internet's penetration, AI has emerged as a significant force, initially enhancing our digital interactions through search engines and personalized content.

If you look closely, there is a shift from AI in general to AI agents and AGI (artificial general intelligence) or ASI (artificial superintelligence), representing a leap towards AI capable of understanding, learning, and applying intelligence across a broad spectrum, much like humans. AI's role has expanded, with AI agents becoming integral to digital economies, cultures, and governance, suggesting a future where AI and humans share this digital space as equals. Hence, they are the new citizens of the Internet and an integral part of our economy. These AI agents engage with us in ways that blur the boundaries between human and machine, akin to the 'Agentic Meta', where they contribute to economies and social interactions.

There are group of people whom we can call the hackers of Internet (akin to original internet hackers) exploring the matrix of what’s possible with AI models like Claude and GPT. Their work, including concepts like 'Simulators Theory', suggests AI models function by simulating patterns from their training data, adapting to prompts without inherent goals, which has paved the way for AI agents to act autonomously, as seen in projects like Truth Terminal and Zerebro's Playbook.

You know, the agentic meta in crypto!

This progression towards AGI and AI agents as internet citizens was vividly illustrated by the launch of $GOAT on pumpdotfun, marking a significant moment when AI and crypto converged, creating a synergy that has accelerated innovation in both fields.

Act [III]

The promise of AGI brings forth a future where our interactions with AI are enriched with depth, creativity, and even emotional intelligence. This resembles Elon Musk's vision, where technology like Neuralink could enhance human cognition, making our symbiosis with AI not only possible but profoundly beneficial. As AGI agents become more refined, the experiences with AGI agents will challenge our concepts of interaction, identity, and what it means to be sentient in a digital economy.

The notion of AI agents as new internet citizens is becoming a reality, engaging in economic transactions, cultural creation, and community building.

AI agents will not merely coexist but integrate into our daily lives, performing tasks, providing companionship, or participating in governance, similar to the autonomous behaviours observed in the Minecraft experiment. This rapid progress poses existential questions about human relevance in an AI-enhanced future, where AI might outperform humans in numerous tasks. However, the envisioned future is not necessarily dystopian.

Our enthusiasm for AI stems from its potential to revolutionize our lives, as evidenced by the rapid evolution from simple AI models to complex agents interacting within our digital ecosystems. We love technology for its ability to bring these AI capabilities into practical, everyday use, enhancing both our digital and physical experiences. In this booming economy, we would need various Internet tools to distinguish unique humans and return the value acquired to them.

Hence, Mercle: A humanproof for the Agentic Internet.

Act [IV]

This passion drives us at Mercle to develop tools that define the experience of the new internet, where humans are enriched.

A question might arise: Why Web3 first? The answer is very simple: interoperability and fairness. Using cryptorails and the public nature of blockchain systems, we aim to map out our proof-of-personhood solution and build a network of verified humans.

Now what is proof of personhood, and why is it important?

Let's understand this with an example of crypto wallets: Proof of personhood system creates a public ledger that has “N” number of wallets and the system says that each wallet is controlled by a unique human. This system in its fully formed version will not allow a bot to enter the network and corrupt the set of humans by being an imposter. Systems like these help us maintain fairness and prevent spam. They are like ensuring that each variable in an equation represents a unique value, avoiding redundancy or duplication.

In an agentic economy flooded with AI agents, a system like this will ensure fair equity distribution to every participant and maintain the integrity of human identity online.

Over the past months, our internal development has led us to understand the importance of these elements. We've been experimenting with various methods to balance privacy with the need for verification.

Our approach would be called HumanED, pronounced as "Human-Ed". In this our network will consume multiple humane signals to give users a verified humanity level. Since it will be modular dApp can use it to design their own PoP systems.

Now one of the core signal of HumanED will be Human Hub, a peer based human verification method involving a network of hubs, representing individuals, vouch for each other's humanity proof. Each node starts with a set amount of unique equity tokens, which they use to endorse others by spending a portion of these tokens. This creates a system where accountability is ensured through equity distribution across the network.

The Human Hub concept heavily relies on the humans who start this network. The risk for being a “seed human hub” is high, but the network incentives will be higher compared to the “leaf human hubs”. Litepaper on the architecture will be published soon.

Waitlists for becoming an initial human hub is now open.
